A permission form will come home today.
Last week, we chose our areas of interest, and applied for our favorities. We are now in our PYPX groups.
POVERTY: Cato, Ciara, Seongjoon, Yassin SPORTS: Rickard, Fares, Emely, Yury ANIMAL ABUSE: Rahman, Lilla, Tim, Serita HEALTH: Batu, Jake, Daniel, Ewan DISABILITIES: Moervica, Cecilie, Jemma, Greta This will be a busy PYPX week, as we will be aiming to choose our Central Ideas, Lines of Inquiry and Essential Questions, all of which will guide our inquiries. Students will have received a copy of PYPX rubric, and will be expected to have their first PYPX Parent Meeting with you some time this week. The purpose of the meeting is to share the rubric with you, and for either of you to ask any questions you may have. Hopefully, if everything goes according to plan, they will have everything they need to start their research when we return from the break. PYPX Work During The Holiday Students are not required to do any PYPX work during the break, although if they have time, and choose to start doing some research, they are welcome to. PYPX:
-work on your Central Idea/Line of Inquiry/Essential Questions document -have your first parent meeting (share with them a copy of PYPX rubric) -add any questions you or your parents have regarding the rubric to the Google Form -20 minutes per day reading Math -K.6Least common denominator -L.4Add and subtract fractions with like denominators: word problems Challenge -L.8Add fractions with unlike denominators Some students may be working on independent Math work, in which case they can work on that in place of iXL.
Last week was our first full PYPX week. We have unpacked the Transdisciplinary Theme of How We Express Ourselves, looking at the many different ways we express ideas, feelings, nature, culture, beliefs and values. We thought about what we are passionate about, and how our passions might lead to strong potential PYPX topics. A good PYPX topic meets the following criteria:
Last week, we focused on #1-5, allowing us to generate approximately 35 potential topics. Update: Check the bottom of this post for a picture of our topic list. This week, we will focus on #6-8. By Monday, we will have settled on our 10 potential PYPX topics. From there, students will choose their 4 favorites, justifying why they chose what they did. Those choices will be used to form our groups, which will be announced by the end of the week. What can you do at home this week? Have a chat with your child about the list of potential topics.
